Quinz further improved the already excellent records of Richard Johnson and Philip Hobbs in the Racing Post Chase at Kempton.</span></span></span><br />

 <span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
It was a fifth victory in the Grade Three handicap for jockey Johnson and a fourth for trainer Hobbs, who was left considering whether he would allow the seven-year-old to take his chance under 10st 8lb in the <a href='http://www.racingbetter.co.uk/aintree/2011/grand_national_entries.html' class='bbc_url' title='Externí odkaz' rel='nofollow external'>John Smith's Grand National</a>.</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
Quinz is still a novice as he was unconvincing in his first spell over fences last season, but he is a transformed individual this term, winning at Exeter and Ascot before Christmas and running respectably at Cheltenham behind Time For Rupert.</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
The 8-1 shot beat 50-1 chance Mount Oscar by a length and a quarter but the heavy ground-specialising runner-up looked a more likely winner jumping the second-last as he ate into the advantage of the positively-ridden Quinz.</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
Mount Oscar had already overcome a dreadful jumping error leaving the back straight and could never quite overcome the winner. The admirable grey Nacarat, a neck runner-up last year and the winner in 2009, bustled Quinz up for as long as he could but to carry 11st 12lb through the mud was too much to ask as he clung on for third.</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
Hobbs said: "It's amazing really because last year he ran in two novice chases at Newbury and his jumping was moderate, but he is a different horse now. He is in the Grand National - Richard's initial reaction was that it's not a good idea but he would get in without a penalty and he'll never get to run off a weight like that again.</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
"It's just coincidence our record in this race and having the right kind of horse for it, nothing more than that."</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
Quinz is entered in the <a href='http://www.racingbetter.co.uk/cheltenham_festival/2011/race/stewart_handicap_chase.html' class='bbc_url' title='Externí odkaz' rel='nofollow external'>Stewart Family Spinal Research Handicap Chase</a>at Cheltenham, but Hobbs added: "When he ran at Cheltenham behind Time For Rupert last time, we weren't sure if it was the right track for him.</span></span></span><br />
<span style='color: #003300'><span style='font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif'><span style='font-size: 12px;'><br />
"It was Andrew Cohen (owner) who wanted to come here. I wanted to go for a novice chase at Wetherby about three weeks ago - the safe option really."</span></span></span></p>
